Friday, 26 December 2014, 9.00pm

The National Folk Orchestra of Ireland will perform The Boróimhe Suite on RTÉ Radio 1 on Friday 26th December at 9pm.

The National Folk Orchestra of Ireland was first formed by Comhaltas CeoltóiríÉireann in the late 1980s and has always attracted the most gifted young Irish musicians and singers. In 2014, the Orchestra was reformed to perform the Boróimhe Suite by Monaghan composer Michael Rooney. The Boróimhe Suite was written to commemorate the millennium of the death of Brian Ború.

The Orchestra is made up of fifty of the finest young traditional and classical musicians from eighteen different counties and they have performed in Armagh, Killaloe, Cashel, Clontarf, Ennis and Sligo during 2014. The suite describes, in music, the early days of Brian Ború through his childhood years and eventually to his death in Clontarf in 1014.
