“Ireland’s economic fragility has been well documented, but the new Dublin International Piano Festival and summer academy offers a glimpse into what boom-time development might look like.” - Michael Dervan, International Piano Magazine.

“It is a pleasure to be associated with the Dublin International Piano Festival and Summer Academy. The festival is a much welcomed addition to the cultural landscape of Dublin City, and will further enhance the reputation of our capital city as a hub of piano and classical music excellence.” - John O’Conor, Concert Pianist and Festival Patron

*****

After two hugely successful Festivals, we are happy to announce that the capital city is now officially home to a festival that matches its status of musical excellence. Now in its third year, the Dublin International Piano Festival (DIPF) is set to be even more ambitious than before.

In conjunction with the phenomenally talented ‘core’ faculty, the DIPF each year invites unique & special guest artists: this year’s surprise isHJ Lim, a pianist of extraordinary imagination and vision; an artist who has won praise for “refreshing and rediscovering the pinnacles of the piano repertoire’, but above all as an artist who balances all of these talents with an undeniable flair and virtuosity. With special guest appearance by the Venerable Seongdam Sunim, who will perform the unique ancient Korean singing technique of Jitsori, the DIPF is excited to present this rare collaboration of master pianist with spiritual guru, in what promises to be both musically and spiritually, an uplifting and enlightening experience!

“This is playing that does everything one could want and so much more – it is the musical equivalent of Viagra, restoring passion, lust and hunger for an old lover – something the classical music industry is desperately in need of.” – James Rhodes, The Telegraph.

Closer to home but no less an honor, guest artist # 3 this year is world renowned Irish composer, producer and arranger Bill Whelan, who will engage audiences with his seminar “Composition, Improvisation – Who has the rights and does it matter?” We are only too familiar with Bill’s work in theatre, film and television and most famously his grammy winning album of music for the Riverdance show. The seminar will include a Q&A period and would not be complete without featuring a performance of one of his piano works!

The DIPF is the pride and joy of the husband and wife founders Archie Chen & Rhona Gouldson . The husband and wife team met in Dublin in 2004 while teaching together, and since then they have gone on to create their lives coupled with Classical Piano.

International Piano Magazine hails, “This piano festival with such a varied and intensive programme, will benefit and thrill piano students and audiences alike. Dublin has a rich cultural heritage and festival goers are certain to have an exciting week of shared learning and pianistic exploration.”

With the commitment & energy from the DIPF team, this year’s third Festival is guaranteed to be an amazing time, filled with great music and exciting opportunities.
