GLASDRUM, a north Dublin voluntary organisation dedicated to bringing great art to Glasnevin and Drumcondra, announces its newest northside cultural adventure: On Friday Sept 29 in St John the Baptist Church, Church Avenue, Drumcondra, GlasDrum presents NEW SOUNDS IN AN OLD PLACE, an evening of fresh and soulful sounds in the glorious acoustic of the 17th century Drumcondra Church of Ireland.

Filling the stage on the first night of NEW SOUNDS IN AN OLD PLACE will be indie-folk singer songwriter Maria Kelly and an acoustic set by sparky Dublin Rn’B singer Soulé, along with some wordsmithery by “poetician” John Cummins to kick the night off.

Soulé - whose debut song Love No More won the 2016 RTÉ Choice Music Prize Song of the Year- has been captivating audiences at festivals ranging from Forbidden Fruit to Sea Sessions. Dubbed by Hot Press as ‘one of the hottest young acts in the country’ (May 2017), she will perform an acoustic set for NEW SOUNDS IN AN OLD PLACE, which brought the house down at the Other Voices Music Trail last December.

Maria Kelly has crafted her sound over many years into what she describes as ‘atmospheric-indie-folk’. Her delicate sound, lyricism and sophisticated vocal patterns create a spellbinding effect. Named by the Irish Times as one of ’50 People to Watch’ in 2017, current EP ‘The Things I Should’ is receiving extensive radio play.

John Cummins (poetician) is Dublin to the bone, a spoken word artist with electricity sparking from his every rhyme. Poet Laureate of the Lingo festival 2014, he was billed then as ‘Zen-master of language…part rapper, part poet, all artist’.
