Sebastian Heindl @ Dún Laoghaire Organ Concerts

Sunday, 1 July 2018, 8.00pm

Sebastian Heindl was born in 1997. He began piano studies at the age of five, and was a chorister in St Thomas Boys Choir, Leipzig. He began his organ studies with university organist Daniel Beilschmidt and accompanied the choir on many occasions. In 2013 he contributed as an organ soloist to the BBC TV documentary Bach: A Passionate Life with Sir John Eliot Gardiner. At the age of seventeen he recorded his debut CD, playing the Schuke Organ at Magdeburg Cathedral, and including his own orchestral transcriptions. His playing on the recording was lauded by Organ: Journal für die Orgel as ‘absolutely authentic, technically perfect, fiery, enthralling’. Sebastian has performed as a soloist around Germany, including in Leipzig (both St Thomas Church and the concert hall), Essen and Arnstadt. In 2017 he won the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition, giving him the opportunity to perform in Ireland, across the UK and in New York City. He is currently studying church music at the University of Music in Leipzig with Prof. Martin Schmeding. He is a fellow of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and the Richard Wagner Foundation.
