The Blair Chair in Irish Studies was founded in 2007, through a £5 million endowment from the Irish Government, in honour of former Prime Minister Tony Blair. Following the retirement of Professor Marianne Elliott D.Phil, OBE, FBA, FRHistS, the University is seeking to appoint an individual with an outstanding international profile in an area of Irish Studies such as Irish History, Irish Politics, Irish Literature or any other relevant discipline. You will contribute to research, knowledge exchange and teaching in Irish Studies and provide leadership across the University within your subject area to build international links and collaborations. The Chair position is linked to the multidisciplinary Institute of Irish Studies and you will act as Director of the Institute, with responsibility for its strategic direction and public and networking activities.
You should have an excellent international profile based on research excellence, impact on policy developments and community engagement, an exemplary track record in teaching, supervision and academic leadership and the ability to engage successfully with a wide range of stakeholders. A good understanding of the challenges facing Universities in a highly competitive global market would be advantageous.
