Choirland Revisited @ Cork International Choral Festival
Choir-In-Residence Chamber Choir Ireland will once again grace the Festival with its presence for a concert in the beautiful surrounds of St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral. The choir will design a programme themed accordingly for the 2018 Festival showing their diversity and technical prowess. This year, Chamber Choir Ireland is joint collaborator on a music commission by composer Andrew Hamilton which will be premiered on the night, along with the piece of the winner of the Seán Ó Riada Composition Competition.
In addition to this unique performance, Paul Hillier, conductor and artistic director of CCI will lead a seminar during the Choral Symposium on new composition and the performance of same, all as part of our Education programme.
Focussing on two triptych commissions by composers, David Fennessy and Andrew Hamilton, audiences will hear Hamilton’s complete 3-part work music for thomas bernhard co-commissioned with the Cork International Choral Festival, which includes the 2010 Everything is Ridiculous, and the first two movements of Fennessy’s triptych, Letter to Michael and Ne reminiscaris. The final part of Fennessy’s triptych will be completed and premiered in the Autumn of 2018.
Other musical treats include a delightful arrangement by Paul Hillier of Raglan Road, James Macmillan’s The Gallant Weaver, and Tarik O’Regan’sTurn.
