RTÉ is Ireland’s national public service media organisation providing comprehensive, cost-effective, free-to-air multi-media services to audiences nationally and internationally.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the senior management position of General Manager, RTÉ Concert Orchestra. The RTÉ Concert Orchestra has established a unique role in Irish musical life over the past 69 years. Eclectic in its range, engaging in its performance style and dynamic in its programming, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra appeals to a wide general audience with a busy schedule that includes over 90 live performances annually, regular television and radio broadcasts, recordings and educational work. 

Reporting to the Head of RTÉ Orchestras, Quartet & Choirs and RTÉ lyric fm, the General

Manager will carry the key senior leadership role for achieving the business, organisational and artistic objectives of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. S/he will be capable of leading a small management and administrative team in a challenging business environment.

The successful candidate will have direct and significant senior management experience in managing music ensembles. S/he will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of achievement in the areas of people management, change management and financial control in an orchestral setting. The successful candidate will have an exceptional knowledge of orchestral music including light classical, jazz, contemporary, pop, film and musical theatre repertoires, together with experience of programming concerts to meet financial and artistic targets. Knowledge of the Irish music scene is also desirable.

The post will be offered initially on a two-year fixed-term employment contract at Department Manager Grade 1 level.

In addition, please supply a short paper (not more  than 500 words) setting out a high level, 12-month cross-genre artistic plan, including indicative top-line people and production costs, which is financially astute and which will deliver public value.
