The Department of Music at the University of Birmingham seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Performance with effect from 1 September 2018. 

The successful candidate will be an excellent researcher and practitioner in music performance, holding or close to completing a PhD or equivalent qualification and with ambitious future agendas for research and impact that complement and expand current activity in the Department. The appointee will be an excellent teacher and manager, and will contribute at all degree programme levels, including both core and specialist modules. As Department Director of Performance the appointee will assume leadership of solo performance provision and assessment at undergraduate and Masters levels. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s programme of cultural engagement, for instance by delivering lecture-recitals on campus and in the city of Birmingham. The successful candidate will also undertake performance work in relation to internationalization, and should be willing to travel. In addition the appointee will contribute to the department’s core teaching in at least one of the following areas: harmony and counterpoint, analysis, composition or music history. 

Applications are welcome from specialists in all areas of performance, including jazz.
