Theodora - G. F. Handel

Theodora - G. F. Handel

Friday, 6 April 2018, 7.30pm

Faith. Love. Sacrifice.

Handel's oratorio Theodora is a tale of power. Power that corrupts, power that saves, power that overcomes oppression.

Containing some of the finest music that Handel ever wrote, including his own favourite chorus, Theodora is the story of forbidden love between Christian Queen Theodora and a Roman convert, Didimus. Leading by example, they demonstrate the power of faith to overcome the prejudice and cruelty of the Roman regime. With arias to move the soul and choruses that stir emotions, Theodora's characters will take you on a journey in faith. Sung from memory and presented in a dramatic concert staging, the young voices of Sestina will be joined by the pre-eminent Irish Baroque Orchestra for their first collaboration.
