Gagaku: The Japanese spirit of co-operation and harmony based on the history of Gagaku.

Gagaku is a type of Japanese classical music, dance and song. It is the oldest music in Japan and was played at the Imperial Court and at ancient religious temples. Nowadays Gagaku is based on the music played at the Imperial Household Agency which is recognised as the world’s oldest orchestra – playing for over 1,300 years.  It is designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property in Japan. Gagaku includes the use of wind, string and percussion instruments.
