Hot on the heels of a very successful album launch – called “Music Matters: Celebrating 140 Characters” – Music Matters takes to the stage at Smock Alley for the very first time. Join us for an eclectic evening of entertainment, and help us to celebrate ALL of our characters.

Tickets - €18.00 (includes audience ticket + copy of our album) or €12.00 (audience ticket only) - Available through http://smockalley.com/music-matters/

Music Matters Inclusive Community Choir was established by Gráinne O’Grady in April 2012. The choir welcomes anyone over the age of sixteen, with a passion for choral and musical performances; regardless of previous musical experience, ability, language or other barriers which may prevent our members from being able to participate in other musical groups.

Our motto is: “One Choir, One Community, No Divides, ALL Abilities”

At present, Gráinne O’Grady is Musical Director of a community choir for people from a variety of different backgrounds, choirs for adults with intellectual disabilities, and choirs for older people and those with dementia. Our friends from Ossia Youth Choir also joined us for the recording of the album - meaning there are singers from as young as 9 to over 90 years of age! A total of 140 Singers took part in the recording of this album - which is reflected in the title: “Music Matters: Celebrating 140 Characters”

The album launch took place on Tuesday 23rd September 2014 at Axis Ballymun. Copies of the album are available for €10 in a number of locations in Dublin City Centre (MACRO Community Resource Centre - corner of Green St/ North King St, Centra - North King St, Beerhouse Dublin - Capel St, The Capel Bar - Little Britain St) or by contacting us through our social media. All proceeds from album sales will be used to support the development of our inclusive community choir projects.

With a mixture of songs from the Irish traditional “Carrickfergus”, to “Royals” by Lorde, to original compositions by our own choir members - “Music Matters: Celebrating 140 Characters” is bound to be the most eclectic album you have ever heard!

Music Matters would like to thank the Community & Social Development Section and the Arts Office of Dublin City Council, and Axis Ballymun for supporting our largest project to date. It has been a truly amazing opportunity for all of our members to grow and develop through the powerful medium of music.
