Support Act – Comedian Eleanor Tiernan

Returning from her US debut in New York, this will be the first and only opportunity for Dubliners to hear Vyvienne perform this year

DUBLIN - Vyvienne has limited her performances this year to a handful of arts festivals while she works on new material. In those few appearances, enthralled audiences from Bandon to Roundwood have consistently given standing ovations. She will debut in New York City at the end of this month, before returning to play in Dublin with comedian Eleanor Tiernan as support.

Having recorded, produced and released her critically acclaimed album ‘Caterpillar Sarabande’ in 2010 followed by Vyvienne Long ‘Live’ with the Balanescu Quartet in 2013, Vyvienne will debut in the US on October 30th. She recently made a guest appearance with Ed Sheeran at Dublin’s O2 Arena. Her music is described as beautifully disarming and intensely personal and has been in demand for soundtracks in Ireland and internationally, including Kirsten Sheridan’s “Dollhouse”, Icelandic documentary “The Future Of Hope” and RTE’s drama series “RAW”.  Admired as a compelling vocalist and songwriter of incisive wit, critics have drawn comparisons with Björk, Tori Amos and Joanna Newsom.

On November 15th, Vyvienne will perform her latest material featuring a new line up with Neil O’Loghlen on bass (Ensemble Ériu), Raoul Empey on keys, Miriam Cahill on violin and the Blunnie Sisters onbacking vocals. Comedian Eleanor Tiernan will be the supporting act.

Vyvienne Long in the press:

“Vyvienne Long is a boldly inventive creator of silken riches and her first live album strikes a pose, with staccato drama. Her cello insinuates itself across the Balanescu’s filigree of sound, with percussive plucking and bowing, whorls of layered sound. Do not miss the charm, excitement and canny pop instincts of Vyvienne Long.”

Paddy Kehoe, RTE Ten Album Review 2014

“Long’s sprightly harmonies and incandescent cello work are beyond beautiful.”

Johnny Keegan Hot Press April 2014 22

“Vyvienne Long has been known for some time as a boundlessly talented cellist and arranger … here she displays all her talent, confidence and humour to fabulous effect…”

Ian Melaney, State

“Her music is extravagantly baroque, as if fished from the subconscious of Tim Burton or Edward Gorey.”

Eleanor Tiernan in the press:

“Tiernan has a uniquely oblique angle on the word, and her routines have a touch of whimsy while grounded in astute observation. It means her set sounds fresh and original, without being so wilfully strange it will alienate all but the most dedicated followers.”

Chortle.co.uk

“Eleanor Tiernan is far and away the best comic actress I have seen on stage.”
