Welcome to the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition.

Applications are now invited for this prestigious biennial Competition for early music ensembles, which is recognised as a leading international platform for emerging talent in the early music world. Offering a major boost to young professional careers with opportunities for performance, recording and broadcasting, it attracts ensembles from all over the world.

This year we are delighted to announce some exciting new prizes. We have also made some changes, with written feedback offered to all entrants and a change to the age eligibility.

“Participating in the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition 2013 was a true milestone for the Thalia Ensemble.  The relaxed and friendly atmosphere created around the competition by everyone at the NCEM, and shared among the participants and the enthusiastic audience, made it a very gratifying experience for us, and the very high artistic level made us excel in our own performance.  We have certainly reached a much higher musical level by having taken part, and that has been a very relevant factor in our musical growth, individually and as an ensemble. This development was further enhanced by the recording of a CD - part of our award for having won the competition.  We had the opportunity of spending an intensive week together, greatly deepening  the knowledge and mastery of the repertoire we chose to record, with the precious help of Philip Hobbs from Linn Records. That experience has again raised our musical level and ensemble playing to a new and much higher standard.  The public exposure we got from having won such a prestigious award, and the subsequent recognition of our work, has opened up many doors and new paths for our career.  The Thalia Ensemble is very thankful to everyone at the NCEM for their professionalism, kindness, commitment and passion for early music, which we are very happy to share and reciprocate.”  Thalia Ensemble, First Prize Winners 2013
