Glyndebourne has a vacancy for an Orchestra Pit Manager for the 2018 Festival. 

You will ensure that the practical and physical needs of the musicians and conductors working at Glyndebourne are met at all rehearsals and performances, with regard to necessary equipment and facilities within the orchestra pit. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Plan the layout and requirements of the orchestra pit and schedule and manage a small team of staff to cover pit layout changeovers, rehearsals, and performance duties
  • Train staff to effectively complete pit changeovers and handle musical instruments
  • Acting as the first point of contact for musicians, liaise with Music Library staff, Orchestra Managers, Transport and Stage Managers, and Conductors to ensure that orchestra needs are met and that arising problems are managed
  • Keep the orchestra pit facilities and associated storage areas functional, well maintained and available as required
  • Ensure a safe working environment including carrying out regular visual health and safety checks and report any conditions felt to be unsafe to the Health and Safety coordinator.
  • Working alongside the Music Library and Orchestral Management in the collection of noise data during rehearsals and performances, as well as the physical distribution of any noise protection screens and earplugs to players in the pit.
