Position: Marketing and Communications Manager

Location: Halifax, NS

Full-Time Contract Position: Immediately until May 1, 2015

Since its inception in 1989, The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) has been a regional collaboration of participants within the music industry. The ECMA is a registered non-profit association whose mission is to foster, develop, promote and celebrate East Coast music, its artists and the music industry locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. The annual East Coast Music Week is the most comprehensive and exciting international music event in Atlantic Canada.

Position Summary

This position has overall responsibility for managing marketing and communications for ECMA’s annual awards and conference event, Eastlink East Coast Music Week (ECMW). The challenge of this position is to effectively position the event and the association with the media and the general public, often in a high-pressure environment. This position works under minimal supervision in a team environment and is accountable for ensuring appropriate messaging is communicated through the media, social media, and other sources. Occasional overtime is required to accommodate daytime and evening activities. Some travel is required within Atlantic Canada to attend meetings, conferences, and festivals.

This job description is a guideline only and the incumbent may be required to perform other duties, on an ad-hoc or permanent basis.

Major Responsibilities

- Management of all areas related to ECMW marketing, communications, social media, and messaging. Responsibility for adhering to the Marketing and Communications critical path and ensuring that all deadlines are met.

- Developing and executing comprehensive event marketing and advertising plan, scheduling appropriate messaging around radio, print, online and television ad campaigns to promote annual event and association in general.

- Write copy for print, radio, online, and television advertising to ensure appropriate messaging is filtered to audience.

- Supervising Graphic Designer in creating all event and association collateral and promotional material; and working with individual departments to coordinate all required copy and content for publications and promotions.

- Prepare, solicit, and manage content for the ECMA e-newsletter on a weekly basis and distribute electronically to the members.

- Content management and creation as required for the website and mobile app, including attending regular meetings for website development project.

- Ongoing social media management for the Association, and management of social media staff and volunteers for the annual event, providing direct supervision.

- Prepare and distribute press releases regarding activities surrounding annual event and association in general. Supervise publicists in issuing ECMW specific press releases and overall ECMW PR campaign.

- Additional duties as required.

Skills and Experience

Outstanding oral and written communication skills; significant customer service and negotiation skills; highly effective time management and organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure; strong logical thinking, and problem solving skills; must be a self motivated quick learner able to work independently within a team environment and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Strong understanding of music industry; computer/word processing skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, PhotoShop, Marcato; knowledge of event management and working with volunteers and contractors.

Experience in a similar role in an event-based organization preferred.
