Stockhausen in Depth
Discover the transformative influence on contemporary music of Stockhausen in this study day led by Robert Worby, composer, sound artist, writer and broadcaster.
Electronic music. Serialism. Radios. Spatial music. Tapes. Music for every day of the week. Music for every hour of the day. These concepts just scratch the surface of 20th-century composer Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928 – 2007) and the transformative influence he had on modern music.
In this study day complementing performances of Stockhausen’s music at Southbank Centre (Tue 21 May – Sun 2 Jun), we explore the composer’s life and works with live music and discussion from experts: musicologist Dr Morag Grant, Professor Rolf Gehlhaar, composer and pioneer in interactivity and computer-aided composition, and pianist Tamara Stefanovich.
