Freelance contract for Cello (Principal Position)

The Irish Chamber Orchestra has a vacancy for Principal Cello. The ICO, resident at the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance at the University of Limerick, is one of Ireland’s principal cultural ambassadors. The orchestra runs a concert season in Limerick and Dublin and tours regularly abroad. Jörg Widmann and Gabor Takacs-Nagy are Artistic Partners and the orchestra works with artists such as Jonathan Cohen, Anthony Marwood, Pekka Kuusisto, Tabea Zimmerman and Istvan Vardai.

The ICO guarantees a minimum of ten monthly freelance contracts each year – each month comprises of five to eight days depending on the number of concerts. Each monthly retainer includes payment for five rehearsals. All rehearsals take place at the ICO Studio in the University of Limerick.

The orchestral diary is finalised 3 months in advance, although in practice dates are notified up to a year in advance.

The Closing date for applications is Friday February 27th and auditions will be held in Limerick on Tuesday April 14th.

Audition requirements and prepared sight reading will be posted to successful applicants.
