La France V: Les Six
On March 2nd, 2018 Brooklyn Art Song Society concludes is ambitious 5-concert festival La France with a tribute to the rebellious and brilliant Les Six. These six composers (Georges Auric, Louis Durey, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, and Germaine Tailleffere) captured the spirit of Paris in the 1920s- immersing themselves in Dadaism, Existentialism, and the popular culture of Montmartre. Four exceptional interpreters of song, sopranos Marie Marquis (winner, Joy in Singing) Laura Strickling, mezzo soprano Kristin Gornstein, and baritone Steven Eddy (winner, Joy in Singing) bring the works of these six unique composers to life.
