Gregorian Chant workshop for teenagers and adults over 15 years old!

Monday, 30 November 2015, 8.15pm

Gregorian Chant is a style of liturgical singing dating from the Middle Ages, and it used to be sung at Mass. Some chants are still sung at mass to this day. Musically, the melodies of chants bear a lot of similarities to Irish traditional music. One can learn Chant for a variety of reasons: because one is interested in the Middle Ages as a historical period, because one is a singer and wants to expand his repertoire, or to express one’s faith. Gregorian Chant singer Batsheva Battu, from CEIRD, is teaching Gregorian Chant  in Spiddal on Monday nights.  This course is open to teenagers and adults over 15 years old, and is open to singers of all levels. In this particular workshop, we will learn songs associated with Advent and Christmas, according to the time of year this workshop is taking place at. The workshop takes place through Irish, or bilingually through English and Irish depending on who attends. Gregorian Chant, every Monday from 8.15 to 9.30 pm in Nurturing Touch Centre (Wellness Centre), Spiddal, County Galway.  First workshop: Monday 2nd. November. Cost: 13 Euros per class.  We are acccepting new students on a weekly, drop-in basis. BOOKING ESSENTIAL
