Thursday, 25 February 2016, 10.25am

Established in 2008, Classical Arts Ireland (CAI) is a not for profit organisation best known in Ireland for its programme of live screenings of international cultural events. CAI is particularly known for its long standing role as the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD partner for Ireland (North and South). Met screenings are very popular in Ireland and attract thousands of people to CAI’s 25 partner venues across the country every year. CAI’s highly successful arts screening programme has been built to date without any recourse to public subsidy.

As a key provider of opera events in Ireland, and situated at the heart of an ever growing nationwide network of several thousand individuals with an interest in opera which it has developed since 2008, CAI is committed to supporting the wider agenda of promoting opera in Ireland. In particular, CAI has long advocated for a dedicated digital and physical archive of the history of classical music and opera in Ireland. CAI has begun the process of establishing this archive and is currently developing a strategy to take the idea further in the short to medium term.

Role Responsibility

You will take overall responsibility for the activities of Classical Arts Ireland. Reporting directly to the Board of Management, you will, in particular, manage and administer the organisation’s ongoing programme of cultural event screenings and associated advertising and marketing. You will be CAI’s key liaison with rights holders (the Metropolitan Opera and Berlin Philharmonic at present), 25 partner venues, media sponsors and others. You will manage the company’s finances and work with the Board of Directors or its nominees to develop, where possible, funding sources and strategies to enable and support the development of the company’s other programmes. It is anticipated that in collaboration with the Board, you will also help to develop and implement the organisation’s wider agenda which includes, as a priority, the establishment of a dedicated digital and physical archive of the history of classical music and opera in Ireland.

The Ideal Candidate

An ability to work independently and with minimum oversight is required. You will have strong project management and administration skills, and an ability to communicate at all levels, including with members of the general public. You will have good IT skills and an understanding of digital marketing. You will also have basic financial management skills suitable for taking responsibility for the finances of a small non profit business. An appreciation for and knowledge of opera and classical music is not a requirement but it would be an advantage for the role.
