Dublin Musical Saunter – John O’Conor Celebration @ Great Music in Irish Houses 2019

Sunday, 16 June 2019, 7.00pm

This year the Dublin Musical Saunter focuses the spotlight directly on one of Ireland’s most distinguished pianists, John O’Conor, and the day has been carefully constructed to celebrate John’s prowess as both a celebrated performer and a teacher sans pareil, always encouraging and championing his students to achieve their full potential.

Concert 3 at 7.00 pm Castle Hall, Dublin Castle

The final concert is a celebration of John as performer extraordinaire. The concert will see John and his colleagues from the Royal Irish Academy of Music (Fionnuala Hunt and Lynda O’Connor, violins; Rosalind Ventris, viola and Christopher Marwood, cello) round off a day of wonderful music-making in fine style. It will include a performance of Schumann’s exquisite Piano Quintet and John himself will play Beethoven, the composer with whom he has been most closely associated throughout his career and, in the opinion of many critics, of whose works he is one of the world’s best interpreters.

Programme
Lili Boulanger: D’un matin de Printemps and Deux Morceaux
Beethoven: Sonata for Piano and Cello in A major, op 69
Robert Schumann: Piano Quintet in E flat major, op 44
