Kern plus guest, Sive
Kern is a contemporary folk and trad trio from Louth. At the heart of the band’s unique mix is the thrilling, driving uilleann piping of Brendan McCreanor, the raw Oriel fiddle of Barry Kieran and the dark, lyrical songs of SJ McArdle. Their uilleann pipes-driven tunes and songs tightened from constant touring make for a thrilling, moving and truly entertaining show.
The band’s debut album, False Deceiver, was produced by Trevor Hutchinson (Lúnasa, The Waterboys). It is a mix of songs and tunes from the band’s home county of Louth along with original material and has already garnered significant national airplay in Ireland including live appearances on RTE Radio 1’s Arena, Newstalk’s Pat Kenny Show and on Raidío na Gaeltachta.
The band has toured extensively in the past year and in 2018 won the TradFest Temple Bar Showcase and performed at the All-Ireland Fleadh as well as the largest Irish festival in America, Milwaukee Irish Fest.
As well as 2019 dates at Folk Alliance in Canada and in Germany, Kern have appeared at this year’s TradFest Temple Bar and are completing the band’s second album which will be supported by an extensive Irish tour.
Kern have also recently released a double single, "Little Things" and "The New Jigs" recently to great acclaim and radio play also produced by Trevor Hutchinson.
"A solid grasp of traditional and contemporary forms. Rich sonorous blending of uilleann pipes and fiddles lift the instrumentals while SJ McArdle's gritty voice and dexterous songs add an interesting extra lustre"
