In this three-concert series, the Irish Chamber Orchestra presents astonishing masterworks from the composer’s later years alongside thrilling 21st century sounds.

This first programme showcases one of Ireland’s most exciting new creative talents, Cork-based Sam Perkin. His recent work for orchestra and percussionist, Waves (originally titled 365 Variations on a Gesture) received standing ovations at its premiere and features sensational young Irish percussionist Alex Petcu-Colan, for whom it was written. Completing the programme is a rare orchestral performance of Beethoven’s transcendent String Quartet in B flat, Op. 130. In its great slow movement, space and time seem to suspend.
