Dublin Guitar Quartet perform Tubular Bells

Friday, 5 July 2019, 8.00pm

Dublin Guitar Quartet perform TUBULAR BELLS by Mike Oldfield
with additional music by The Redneck Manifesto, Steve Reich, Bryce Dessner (The National) and Rachel Grimes.

The Dublin Guitar Quartet made their debut performance supporting The Redneck Manifesto in Whelan’s in 2001. Since then they’ve become a leading ensemble in the contemporary classical music world, touring the globe and working directly with composing legends such as Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt and Nico Muhly. On releasing a recording by the DGQ on his own label, Philip Glass recognised the unique nature of the group and noted that the DGQ has “carved a place for itself in the world of classical music.” On July 5th in Whelan’s they will continue to do this when they turn their well-honed ensemble and transcriptions skills to the first performance of Mike Oldfield’s seminal Tubular Bells album.

The DGQ are fond of a looped riff and will also perform the mesmerising instrumental work Electric Counterpoint by Steve Reich alongside music by The Redneck Manifesto, Rachel Grimes and Bryce Dessner (The National)

Setlist:

Electric Counterpoint – Steve Reich
Aheym – Bryce Dessner
Book of Leaves (Selected Movements) - Rachel Grimes
Soundscapes over Landscapes – The Redneck Manifesto
Hibernation Statement – The Redneck Manifesto
Tubular Bells – Mike Oldfield
