IRELAND TOUR 2014

Sunday, 24 August 2014, 5.00pm

“Never afraid of the brutal, the voice is raw and soulful and the guitar playing is vintage. Phil Cosby will take you on a journey through luscious soundscapes and driving dance grooves, to transcendent rock. At heart he is a singer-songwriter with a passion reminiscent of John Martyn, met by the wild spirit of Neil Young & Crazy Horse.

Based in London but raised on a farm in Wicklow in Southern Ireland, Phil Cosby’s songwriting has led him to work with an array of world-class musicians. Having teamed up with studio legend Phill Brown (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd), this August he will release his debut album The Deal. The album boasts contributions from a list of heavy weight players including Mercury Prize nominee Jon Hopkins.

Phil’s early days in London saw him as the man behind The Pigeon Hole folk club. At the time of the BBC’s Folk Britannia series, the country saw a revival of grass roots music, The Pigeon Hole being the forerunner on the London scene. Hailed by Time Out as “London’s best underground folk club”, many notable names rose from it’s fold.

Never feeling at home under the restraints and expectations a scene can hold, Phil has journeyed his own path and his music bears no ties. Now coming to fruition, he is happy to be doing what he loves more than ever before.

In July Phil Cosby returned to the studio with Phill Brown for what promises to be his most exciting project to date. In August he will hit the shores of Ireland with his band for a tour culminating at the Electric Picnic.”
