The Far Flung Trio on tour January/February 2019

The Far Flung Trio are Katherine Hunka (violin), Dermot Dunne (accordion) and Malachy Robinson (bass).

Getting 2019 off to a flying start, the Far Flung Trio are on tour in January-February with an irresistible musical programme that is virtuosic, eccentric and charming in their signature style. The seductive melodies of Bizet’s Carmen and Rossini’s mischievous Barber of Seville overture ... jazzy tunes by Gershwin and an original work by Irish jazz giant Ronan Guilfoyle ... and lots more, all tailored by the Trio and delivered with panache and delight. Starting on 12th January, the Trio will visit The Whale Greystones, St.John’s Theatre Listowel, Glór Ennis, The Belltable Limerick, Linenhall Arts Centre Castlebar, All Saints’ Church Mullingar, Dunamaise Arts Centre Portlaoise, City Hall Waterford and finishing in Roscommon Arts Centre on 5th February.

In Greystones, Ennis, Limerick, Portlaoise and Waterford the Trio will give Family Concert performances based on Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf of approx. 1 hour. Malachy Robinson of the Trio says: “This is a piece that appealed to us primarily because of the storytelling element - the narration will be undertaken by the trio while playing. It is also a piece full of enchanting melodies and rich textures that we have enjoyed arranging to suit our instruments. Prokofiev’s colourful orchestration has been fascinating to engage with, stimulating our imagination as we hope it will the audience’s.”
