Summary
This is a full time, seasonal position. Sarasota Opera, which owns its 1926 historic theater which was renovated in 2007-08, produces operas in repertory from January to March, a Youth Opera, and a Fall production. Additionally, throughout the opera season a myriad of tours, special events and concerts are also produced.

Objective
The successful candidate will gain firsthand knowledge of the music staff process and operation of a professional “Rep” opera company. The fast paced, demanding work environment will help them gain critical prioritization, organization, and collaboration skills.

Duties:
This position will: play piano for chorus rehearsals; run surtitles for some productions; play coachings for stage directors and music staff ; possibly play keyboards in the pit.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, detail oriented, possess excellent organizational skills and have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Have very strong piano skills (audition consists of playing & singing act one of Puccini’s “La bohème”); have as strong foreign language skills; have a desire to learn about conducting; wants to gain firsthand knowledge about the running of a very busy opera company.

Dates: January 4, 2019 through March 24, 2019. Candidate must be able to be in residence for the entire season.
