John Wilson appointed BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Associate Guest Conductor

Position will run concurrently with his position at the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

John Wilson, Principal Conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, has been appointed Associate Guest Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Wilson first conducted the Scottish Symphony in 2002 and has worked with them regularly since, including making various recordings. The position with the SSO will involve around three to four projects per season and will run concurrently with his position at the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. 

Wilson, known in particular for his performances at the BBC Proms and his recreations of Hollywood scores, was a Guest Conductor with RTÉ CO since 2009 and appointed Principal Conductor in 2014. He is also Principal Conductor with the Royal Northern Sinfonia in Gateshead, England. 

Wilson’s upcoming concerts in Ireland with the RTÉ CO include a Signature Series concert with Michael Feinstein performing works from the Great American Songbook on 24 September, The Composer in Hollywood featuring Charlie Lovell-Jones (violin) on 8 October and a concert with tenor Ian Bostridge on 8 November.
