Really Terrible Orchestra Seeking Emerging Composers

Could you write new music that the Really Terrible Orchestra is able to play?

The Really Terrible Orchestra in Edinburgh is celebrating its twentieth year by offering a prize of £1,000 for a new piece from an emerging composer.

Founded by Alexander McCall Smith, the Orchestra was created for adults who, it was felt, weren’t good enough to play in a serious amateur orchestra. Its concerts, however, are sell-outs. The challenge of the competition, the orchestra states, is to

produce new music that the orchestra is able to play, given the musical limitations of its members. However it also needs to be interesting and challenging for the orchestra and appealing to [its] audience.

Composers must be resident in the UK. The deadline is 30 June 2016.
