The State Examinations Commission has released statistics on the numbers of students and grades for the Leaving Certificate 2018. 

According to the figures, a total of 6,383 students took Music as an examination subject in 2018. This is a 2% drop on 2017 (6,519) – though a slight increase on the number of students taking music compared to 2015. 

93% of the 2018 students (5,921) took it as an honours subject, of which 32.1% received a grade of H1 or H2, the equivalent of 80% or higher.

Of the 462 students who sat an Ordinary level music exam, 14.3% received an O1 or O2, the equivalent of 80% or higher.
