93% of Music Students Took it as an Honours Subject in 2018

2% drop in students taking Leaving Cert Music overall.

The State Examinations Commission has released statistics on the numbers of students and grades for the Leaving Certificate 2018. 

According to the figures, a total of 6,383 students took Music as an examination subject in 2018. This is a 2% drop on 2017 (6,519) – though a slight increase on the number of students taking music compared to 2015

93% of the 2018 students (5,921) took it as an honours subject, of which 32.1% received a grade of H1 or H2, the equivalent of 80% or higher.

Of the 462 students who sat an Ordinary level music exam, 14.3% received an O1 or O2, the equivalent of 80% or higher.
