Arts Council Offering €350,000 for Ambitious New Music Projects

Deadline for applications is 21 April.

The Arts Council has announced an open call for a new scheme called Making Great Work, with up to €350,000 available per project.

The Council is seeking projects that are ‘large in ambition, irrespective of physical, temporal, or quantitative scale’. The total budget for the award is €800,000.

Commenting on the scheme, Arts Council Director Orlaith McBride said,

The open call is open to all artists across artforms and multi-disciplinary arts practice.  It is deliberately light touch, leaving the canvas blank, so that it might be filled by the creativity of those who respond to this call.

A jury made up of two international experts, a national expert and two members of the Arts Council will decide on the successful projects. Shortlisted applications will have to provide fully developed artistic proposals, project plans and budgets before a final decision is made in June 2016. Projects should take place within 18 months.

The Arts Council recently invested €1 million in a similar scheme for the 1916 centenary. One of the nine recipients was sean-nós singer Lorcán MacMathúna for his work, 1916 – Visionaries and their Words, which was recently performed in Dublin and Derry (see videos below).
