Gaeltacht Musicians and Artists Tour 1916 Centenary Multi-Media Show

Performances in Galway, Donegal, Cork and Kerry between between 27 November and 11 December.

Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Pól Ó Ceannabháin, Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Johnny Óg Connolly, Caoimhín Ó Fearghail and Róisín Seoighe are some of the musicians featured in a major new multi-media show that is touring Gaeltacht regions from this weekend.

Titled Aisling? (meaning ‘vision’ or ‘dream’), and curated and directed by Darach Mac Con Iomaire, the show completes the ‘Teanga Bheo’ strand of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. The project, which invites ‘Gaeltacht communities to reconnect with the uniqueness of their localities and culture’, and ‘celebrate and reflect on the story of the Gaeltacht regions over the last 100 years’, has been specially commissioned by Ealaín na Gaeltachta.

Avoiding the standard format of a staged concert, Aisling? will be presented in non-traditional performance spaces in Ros Muc, Galway; Cúil Aodha, Cork; Feothanach, Kerry; and Gaoth Dobhair, Donegal. A limited run of seven performances will take place between 27 November and 11 December.

The complete list of artists involved is: Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, singer/fiddle; Seán Ó Flaithearta,  visual artist/designer; Pól Ó Ceannabháin, singer/percussion; Méabh Ní Bheaglaoich, accordion/singer; Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, fiddle/performer; Johnny Óg Connolly, accordion/composer; Úna Ní Fhlatharta, actor/performer; Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, piper/flautist/bouzouki; Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde, writer/performer; Róisín Seoighe, singer/dancer; Seán Cathal Ó Coileáin, graphic art/projections; and Eoghan Geoghegan, actor/performer.
