Music Generation Offaly Westmeath to Purchase 550 Instruments

Westmeath County Council has issued a tender for the purchase of 550 musical instruments for a Music Generation instrument bank project.

Westmeath, in a partnership with Offaly, was selected in 2013 for participation in Music Generation – the U2 and Ireland Funds’ supported National Music Education Programme, initiated by Music Network.

Through The ‘Play an Instrument Outreach’ Programme, Music Generation Offaly Westmeath aims to help children and young people access instrumental tuition in their own locality. Tuition will be locally provided by musicians and the programme will contribute to the development of a regional tuition service.

Among the required instruments are 124 violins, 24 cellos, 4 double basses, 30 flutes, 30 clarinets, 25 saxophones, 20 trumpets, 60 keyboards, 190 guitars, 8 drum-kits, 10 pianos, 60 music stands and 50 sets of drumsticks.

The deadline for tenders is 20 January. For full details, visit http://goo.gl/FoDNIN
