Following a call for applications last November, the results of the new Piano Scheme 2017 have been announced by Music Network. The scheme aims to provide access to concert standard pianos for professional musicians working in jazz/improvised music.

Pianist Izumi Kimura has been selected in the first round of the scheme and will be supplied with a Steinway Model M for her solo concert on 29 November at Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin. The concert will include music by Cage, premieres of works by Irish composers and by Kimura herself, as well as improvisations.

The Piano Scheme was initiated by Galway Jazz Festival, in partnership with Music Network, and is supported by Jeffers Pianos.
