New Work to be Commissioned for ConTempo Quartet and Uilleann Pipes

Commission inspired by 1916 signatory and uilleann piper Éamonn Ceannt.

A new work for string quartet and uilleann pipes is to be commissioned for the ConTempo Quartet as part of Galway’s 1916 commemoration programme.

The inspiration for the work is Éamonn Ceannt, one of the signatories of the 1916 proclamation, an uilleann piper and a founder member of the Pipers’ Club in Dublin in 1900.

The commissioning partners are Galway City Council Arts Office and The Galway Music Residency. The commissioning process will be managed by the Contemporary Music Centre.

Expressions of interest are sought by 15 January and the selected composer will be informed by 29 January.

The new work will be premiered in June 2016 at a concert in Galway City.
