Ninth 'Sé Mo Laoch' Music Documentary Series Launched

6-part TG4/Aniar TV series begins with a feature on Frankie Gavin on 14 October.

TG4 and Aniar TV launched a new season of the traditional music programme Sé Mo Laoch (‘He’s My Hero’) on Friday 8 October. 

Directed by Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, this will be the ninth series of the music documentary series, first broadcast in 2001. Each episode explores the life and work of traditional musicians through interviews, performances and archive footage.

The new series will be broadcast on TG4 on Sundays at 9.30pm during October and November 2018, beginning on 14 October with a feature on fiddle player and De Dannan founder Frankie Gavin, who was awarded Musician of the Year at the TG4 Gradam Ceoil 2018

The series will also feature Matt Molloy (21 Oct), Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill & Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill (28 Oct), Arty McGlynn (4 Nov), Alex Finn (11 Nov) and Sarah Ghriallais (18 Nov). 

Speaking at the launch of the series at Light House cinema, Prionsias Ní Ghráinne, Commissioning Editor TG4, noted that traditional music is the second most popular subject on the channel after live sport. Also speaking were the Creative Director of Aniar TV, Niamh Ní Bhaoill and Doireann Glackin, presenter of the Tradfest ar TG4 series, which was recorded during Tradfest 2018 and which will be broadcast on Sundays for 6 weeks from 25 November.
