RTÉ Seeking New Music and Arts Radio Programmes

'We’re hoping great programmes will come of these and see a new generation of talent developed' – Ann-Marie Power, RTÉ Head of Independent Radio Production

RTÉ has issued a call for radio producers to apply for commissions for new music and arts programmes. The programmes will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2FM and RTÉ Lyric FM.

RTÉ Lyric FM is seeking submissions for a series called Sounds in Union, a 12-programme 20-minute insert for the Friday evening Lyric Concert. The series, which will carry a fee of €833 per programme, will trace the history of the symphony orchestra.

Lyric is also seeking submissions for the Culture File insert on Classic Drive. Over 250 7-minute episodes will be required, at a fee of €250 per episode.

RTÉ 2FM is seeking submissions for a five-day-a-week 20-minute insert on the Tracy Clifford show that would include a ‘mix/mash up of today’s best new music and classic music memories designed to get workers through the 2pm afternoon slump’. The series would run for 26 weeks with a fee of €550 per week.

RTÉ Radio 1 is seeking submissions for a new weekly arts series to be broadcast on Monday evenings. The brief specifies that the series will ‘cover the arts in depth and complement RTÉ Radio 1’s nightly weekday Arena arts programme’. 34 episodes of 60 minutes are required at a fee of €4,000 per programme.

RTÉ’s Head of Independent Radio Production, Ann-Marie Power, commented,

This annual fund is a great way for RTÉ to engage with the independent radio production sector. We have put out a variety of interesting commissioning briefs to populate our schedules in 2016 and we’re hoping great programmes will come of these and see a new generation of talent developed; moments of radio gold all while creating employment and opportunities within the independent media production industry.

The deadline for submissions is 2.30pm on Tuesday 22 December.
