TG Lurgan Seeking Songwriters and Composers

TG Lurgan Seeking Songwriters and Composers

Irish-language YouTube channel with over thirty-two million views aiming to produce several original projects in 2018.

TG Lurgan has issued a call for songwriters and composers to work with them to produce original songs in the Irish language.

The Irish-language college and YouTube channel, which has previously mainly produced song covers, is aiming to release three original projects over each of its four summer courses at the Coláiste Lurgan college in the Galway Gaeltacht. TG Lurgan’s YouTube channel has over ninety thousand subscribers and over thirty-two million views since it launched in 2010.

Irish-language fluency is not essential as the lyrics will be developed as part of the process. The selected composers will be invited to collaborate with TG Lurgan’s music production team to initially produce a draft or framework for the song. Songwriters and composers will have hands-on input during all production stages.

TG Lurgan’s successful YouTube channel was recently developed into a television series on TG4 titled Lurgan 2K17.

The call for submissions for this new project, NuaNós, states:

We have a fantastic music production team of sound engineers, percussion specialists, music teachers and musicians. We also have enthusiastic talented teenagers who have shown time and time again that that firm favourites sound just as good as Gaeilge when produced to the highest standards. Most importantly we have the time and space over a three-week course for projects to evolve and develop.
