Youth Orchestra of Ireland to Perform with Royal Concertgebouw

NCH concert part of new 28-country initiative called 'RCO Meets Europe'

The National Concert Hall has announced that at the opening concert of its 2016/17 International Concert Series in August, members of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland will have the opportunity to perform side by side with the famous Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

The concert is part of a new initiative called ‘RCO Meets Europe’, in which the Dutch orchestra will perform throughout the 28 member states of the European Union over two and a half seasons. The Dublin concert is the very first performance in the Europe-wide initiative and will feature conductor Daniele Gatti and cellist Sol Gabetta.

The NYOI will perform Weber’s Oberon Overture with the RCO, which will be followed by Schumann’s Cello Concerto with soloist Gabetta, and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4. 

The concert is one of fourteen announced by the NCH as part of its International Concert SeriesOther highlights include Joyce DiDonato singing Baroque arias in June 2017, a 40th birthday concert by Finghin Collins in March, the ensemble Chanticleer in January, Maxim Vengerov performing Sibelius with the RTÉ NSO in April, Freddy Kempf with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra in May, Leif Ove Andsnes and Marc-André Hamelin performing Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring for piano duet in April, and more.
