Alexej Gorlatch, a young Ukranian pianist who won the 2009 Dublin International Piano Competition, and who is currently receiving much acclaim on the classical scene in both Europe and America, will tour Ireland from 25 November to 3 December.

The programme opens with Beethoven’s dynamic Piano Sonata Op. 2 in F minor. Whelan’s The Currach, which was originally written especially for the Dublin competition in 2009, and was performed by Gorlatch as his chosen commissioned piece, breaks up the rest of the programme, which consists solely of music by Chopin.

The Chopin pieces to be performed are the Four Mazurkas Op. 67, the Scherzo Op.31 in B flat minor, the four Mazurkas Op. 68 and the Polonaise-Fantasie Op. 61.
