The Contemporary Music Centre and the Royal Irish Academy of Music are presenting a series of four concerts in Dublin City libraries, beginning today, 24 October, and running until 2 November.

Entitled Musical Tales, the series is intended to celebrate Dublin’s UNESCO City of Literature status, a status Dublin currently shares with only four other cities around the world. This status was also celebrated by the Contemporary Music Centre in its recent New Music Trail, which sought to highlight the interactions between contemporary music and literature.

The series has been curated by guitarist and composer Benjamin Dwyer. It features music by Irish composers Rachel Holstead, Michael Holohan, Kevin O’Connell, Siobhán Cleary and Frank Corcoran, all of which was inspired by Irish authors such as Oscar Wilde, Paul Durcan and Seamus Heaney.

Benjamin Dwyer will introduce each concert, and the performers will be the Royal Irish Academy of Music Milesian Quartet and mezzo Imelda Drumm. The concerts will take place in the Central, Drumcondra, Rathmines and Walkinstown Libraries, on 24, 25 and 27 October, and 2 November, respectively.

Musical Tales is funded by the Dublin City Council Arts Office Arts Grants 2011 and supported by the Dublin City Council Library Development Office. Admission is free to all concerts, although booking is essential.
