There are free workshops on offer from performing festival artists as part of the Cork Jazz Camp, in Cork School of Music, beginning on 27 October. Also there is the opportunity to take part in the Jazz Festival Choir, which performs on the final day.

The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival begins on Friday, 28 October.

A wide range of music and events are taking place all across the city that weekend, some beginning the week prior to the official weekend opening.

A number of high profile bands are headlining the festival this year: Pee Wee Ellis, Randy Brecker and Bill Evans, Kyle Eastwood, Greg Osby, Grandmaster Flash, Stanley Jordan, Damon Albarn and Flea.

European acts include ECM artists Richard Galliano, Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble, Trygve Seim, Frode Haltli and Icelanders Amiina (below).

Irish bands include Palooka, WoWos, ReDiviDer, and many more.

A separate trail — Music Trail Xtra — and dozens of free concerts and DJs can be found on the Guinness Music Trail, which spans a range of small venues across the city. Furthermore, the Big Jazz Fringe — offering related cultural events and services – which begins on Tuesday, 25 October.
