Berlin-based soprano Doerthe Maria Sandmann will perform at the Cube theatre in the National University of Ireland, Galway, on 3 November. The concert is part of the Arts in Action initiative, which aims to provide students at NUI Galway with access to a variety of international-standard arts events throughout the academic year. Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin and Kevin Barry have already appeared as part of the initiative this academic year.

Doerthe Maria Sandmann studied at the Hans Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, and now teaches at the Berlin University of the Arts. Two of Maria Sandmann’s colleagues at the University of the Arts, pianist Akiko Yamashita and clarinettist Cordula Heymann-Wentzel, will perform with her in the Galway concert. The programme includes Robert Schumann’s Woman’s Love and Life, and Franz Schubert’s The Shepherd on the Rock.

The concert will take place from 1pm. to 2pm, and will be presented by the Honorary Consul of the German Federal Republic and Professor of German at NUI Galway, Hans-Walter Schmidt-Hannisa.

Admission is free.
