Musical Youth Foundation is a charity organisation that aims to ensure access for all children to musical education in the hopes of having a long-term impact on communities across the country, through lessons, collaborations and mentorship in a safe environment. Founded as part of the Dublin City Soul Festival in 2009, the charity remains closely linked to the event, using it to help raise funds for its activities.
This year’s festival has a wide line-up of events that includes art, music and food. The highlight of the festival is the two-day Soul Picnic in Merrion Square Park, a family-oriented live music event with a host of Irish bands like The Barley Mob, The Hot Sprockets and The Bionic Rats. Entry is free, though they will be making a collection on behalf of Musical Youth Foundation.
Also on the bill is the very first Instrumental Art exhibition, in which unused or modified instruments have become the canvas for artists. The exhibition takes place from 25 May to 24 June at the top floor at Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre.
