Ergodos Musicians will give the world premiere of RTÉ Lyric FM Composer-in-Residence Linda Buckley’s new song cycle I Have Five Things To Say on 16 June at the Kevin Barry Room of the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
The song cycle was commissioned by Ergodos Musicians’ vocalist Michelle O’Rourke, and sets English translations of poetry by thirteenth century Sufi mystic poet Jalaluddin Rumi. The concert was co-curated by Garrett Sholdice, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly, Michelle O’Rourke and Linda Buckley.
In addition to the song cycle, the programme features four specially-commissioned arrangments of music that has been important to Buckley, from a Sigur Rós song (arrranged by Schlepper-Connolly), to a piece of Javanese Gamelan (Sholdice), to a sean-nós song (O’Rourke), to the Pie Jesu from Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem (Irene Buckley, Linda’s sister and fellow composer).
