February Session with the Pipers

February Session with the Pipers

The second Session with the Pipers of 2012, presented by Na Píobaraí Uilleann and taking place next Tuesday, 7 February in the Cobblestone Bar, Dublin 7, will have Feargal Chambers on pipes, Derek McGinley on fiddle, and the concertina duo Cormac Begley and Jack Talty.

Begley and Talty’s duo CD Na Fir Bolg was released last year. Talty is working on a new project Ensemble Ériu with Neil O’Loghlen. Begley is recording with his family and planning this year’s Tunes in a Church series. Together Begley and Talty will be playing on St Patricks Day in the National Concert Hall as part of Céilí House Live in Concert, where they will be joined by two dancers, one modern, Anna Kaszuba from the Rian production that Begley played in last year, and the other sean-nós, his sister Clíodhna. (Also playing that night will be the reunified Voice Squad.)

McGinley’s duo recording with Tara Connaghan, the Far Side of the Glen, came out late last year. They will be playing in Kilcar on the 18 February as part of the Ceol na gConallach series, along with Margaret Cunningham (songs, guitar and fiddle) and Derek Williamson (songs and guitar), and Dominic & Brian Gallagher (fiddle and tin whistle).

The March Session with the Pipers on Tuesday, 6, will feature Fiachra O’Regan (pipes), Jimmy Cannavan (songs), Frank Jordan (flute), Paddy Ryan (fiddle).
