Galway Brass Workshops

Brass players of all standards are encouraged to take part. Gary Curtin will tutor musicians on breathing, teamwork and technique. Workshops are free, but advance registration is necessary in order to take part.

The Galway Music Residency, in collaboration with St Patrick’s Brass Band (pictured), is hosting a series of workshops with Gary Curtin on 2–4 November.

Brass players of all standards are encouraged to take part. Curtin is will tutor both senior and junior musicians on breathing, teamwork and technique. Workshops are free, but advance registration is necessary in order to take part – applications can be made online by visiting:

Gary Curtin, from Cork, was the first euphonium player to study at degree level at the Cork School of Music and continued his musical education at masters level. In 2005 Curtin moved to Manchester and spent a year at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Steven Mead, eventually claiming the principal euphonium seat at the renowned Black Dyke Band. In 2010 he was awarded the Geoff Whitam Memorial Award for ‘Best Euphonium’ at the British Open Championships.
