Gigs for Families Series in Galway

Gigs for Families Series in Galway

This Sunday the Gigs for Families series run by Galway-based Adventures in Music starts its seventh run at the St Patrick’s Bandhall with a traditional music session for children and their parents featuring Máirtín O Connor (accordion) and Liz Kane (fiddle).

The other performers at the event are Jimmy Fitz (guitar), Daire O’Neil (flute and tin whistle) and Emma O’Sullivan (sean-nós dancer). Traditional music fans will be familiar with the work of each of these performers but not everyone may be aware of the work they do with children. Most of these performers regularly bring traditional music to national school children throughout Galway.

Tickets (5 euro per person) are available at the door and via www.mykidstime.ie. Children under two go free; family tickets cost 20 euro. Doors are open 2pm for young children’s pre-concert activities, with the concert starting at 2.30 and a Meet the Musicians session following at 3.15.

Other Gigs for Families events at St. Patrick’s Bandhall (next to the train station), Forster Street, Galway coming up are:
26 February – Hearing Pictures: An Afternoon of Character Suites with the Coole Music young quartet
11 March – Voices in Harmony with the Gospel Wedding Choir
25 March – Introduction to the Orchestra with the Galway Intermediate Youth Orchestra
29 April – A mix of blue grass and gypsy rock with Mikey and the Scallywags
