Irish-based international arts collective Grúpat are being profiled alongside durational and silent music collective Wandelweiser at this year’s Cut and Splice festival of experimental music and sound art, which will take place on 3—6 November at London’s ICA venue. This year’s edition of Cut and Splice is entitled Grúndelweiser, after its subjects.

Music by Grúpat members (alter egos of Irish composer Jennifer Walshe) including Ukeoirn O’Connor, Flor Hartigan and Walshe as herself, features on the programme, alongside compositions by such Wandelweiser stalwarts as Michael Pisaro, Radu Malfatti, Manfred Werder, Antoine Beuger and Eva-Maria Houben. Performers include Ensemble Ascolta, the Wandelweiser Composers Ensemble, Caoimhín Breathnach, O’Brien Industries and Jennifer Walshe.

As befits the wide-range of practices explored by Grúpat (and its pseudonymous affiliates such as Bulletin M. or its parent ‘corporation’ Milker), which include straight composition, graphic scores, sonic sculptures, sound installations and a variety of public interventions, Cut and Splice 2011 will feature music, films and an exhibition, in addition to the main concert programme.

Cut and Splice is produced by Radio 3 and Sound and Music.
