Hibernian Orchestra Perform in Dublin
John Finucane
The Hibernian Orchestra, a leading ‘voluntary’ orchestra founded in 1981 and now led by John Finucane, comprised of a range of musicians from ‘pre-professionals’ to music teachers and students, will perform a programme of Russian music on 1 April at the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin.
The concert, which is part of the orchestra’s 2011/12 ‘From Russia With Love’ series, will be conducted by Finucane. It will open with Mikhail Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla. This will be followed by Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6. ‘Pathétique’.
Soloist in the Rachmaninov is Máire Carroll, who was victorious in the inaugural Hibernian Orchestra Concerto Competition, and who has been selected as one of the three Irish representatives in the 2012 Dublin International Piano Competition.
Tickets are €15, with €12 concessions, and can be ordered via e-mail at tickets.hibernianorchestra [at] gmail.com.
